Claudia Barona Castañeda was a professor and researcher at the University of the Americas Puebla (Mexico), in the Department of International Relations and Political Science. A historian, Claudia Barona was one of the leading experts on the Moroccan Sahara in the Spanish-speaking world. She researched this topic for more than 35 years. She was also an expert on social movements in Latin America.

The NejMaroc research center, where she served as vice president, posthumously awarded her the title of honorary president.
NejMaroc will forever remain linked to the legacy of this great woman of the academic world.
